Septembre-sur-Seine
In sentimental September, parting is such sweet sorrow.
"Quel joli temps pour se dire au revoir" as sings the famous French artist Barbara in her song entitled "Septembre".
in a more epic manner of saying au revoir, the final four lieder by Richard Strauss include the Hermann Hesse poem "September" in which "summer slips into sleep".
And these, my own September-inspired lyrics for a song yet to be written:
Septembre-sur-Seine
The fall of summer
and the rise of the fall.
Final buds of promise
and first leaves of rest.
One September by the Seine,
my searching heart sat still,
while its waters carried you away,
beneath bridges of yearning
back to your sea of sollace.
Septembre-sur-Seine
The fall of summer
and the rise of the fall.
Final buds of promise
and first leaves of rest.
